Mt. Major Hike

Congratulations to all of the students who made it up (and down) 1127 ft to the summit of Mt. Major in Alton Bay. Thanks to our chaperons, Mr. Miles, Ms. Grizwold, and Mr. Morse.

First Outing Club Event 4/19/09

FIRST OUTING CLUB TRIP TO
MOUNT MAJOR
TRIP INFORMATION:
• Date: Sunday April 19, 2009
• Destination: Mt. Major in Alton Bay, NH
o Distance: 3.8 miles round trip
o Elevation: 1124 FT
• Departure: 9am sharp. Please be at school by 8:30 Sunday morning.
• Return time: 2:30-ish. We will have students call for rides when we go through the Rochester tolls.
• Terrain: well maintained trails
• Difficulty: low-moderate
• Cost: $5.00
• Permission: MUST BE HANDED IN WITH $5.00 BY FRIDAY 4/17/09

What to Bring:
• Backpack (if you are going with a friend you can share and take turns carrying it)
• Water
• Appropriate footwear- sneakers, hiking boots
o Wear good socks and carry an extra pair
• Layers (often at this time of year it is cold somewhere on the mountain and hot somewhere else). We recommend:
o Long pants (preferably NOT jeans)
o T-shirt
o Long sleeve shirt
o Sweatshirt/ light jacket
o Rain coat if rain is forecasted
• Lunch: we will stop for lunch at the top
• Snack you can eat along the way
• Some cash if you want Dunkin’ Donuts when we stop to go to the bathroom
• Sunscreen if it looks like it will be sunny*
• Bug spray if you wear shorts*
• Any personal medical item (inhaler, Epi-pen. . .)

*chaperones will have these items if students need them


Chaperones will carry:
• Band-aids
• Moleskin (for blisters)
• Wilderness first-aid kit
• Advil
